Founded to address a gap in the streaming ecosystem, Beyond Black serves as a singular destination for bold, genre-driven storytelling that prioritizes craft, cultural specificity, and visionary imagination over algorithmic volume.

Our Position
While mainstream platforms periodically spotlight Black genre films, there remains no dedicated home exclusively committed to the speculative imagination of Black storytellers.
Beyond Black exists to change that.
We believe genre is not escapism — it is a language for truth, fear, hope, resistance, and transformation.
Founder
Candace Hicks is a multi-faceted strategic marketing and communications leader and founder of Beyond Black. With a background in brand strategy and cultural storytelling, and a collective 20 years of experience in the entertainment business — in front of the camera, behind the camera and behind the desk — she launched Beyond Black to build a permanent infrastructure for Black-led genre narratives.
She is a graduate of USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and is focused on bridging culture, data, and visionary storytelling in the streaming space.
