Creator FAQ
What kind of content does Beyond Black acquire?
Beyond Black curates Black-led genre storytelling across horror, sci-fi, speculative, Afrofuturism, psychological thriller, and select audio projects. We prioritize strong storytelling over trend-chasing, cultural specificity and original voice and point of view. We are curation-first, not volume-driven.
Do you accept unsolicited submissions?
No. Beyond Black does not accept unsolicited scripts, pitches, decks, or screeners. This protects both creators and the platform.
How do creators submit work for consideration?
We initiate conversations selectively through film markets, industry referrals, curated outreach and established distribution relationships. Creators may reach out via submissions@beyondblack.tv to request a conversation, but materials should not be sent unless requested.
Can I submit a trailer or pitch deck?
Only after an initial conversation and written request from Beyond Black. Any materials sent without prior agreement will be deleted unread.
Does Beyond Black work with independent filmmakers?
Yes. We actively support independent and emerging Black filmmakers, provided the work aligns with our curatorial standards and is legally cleared for distribution.
Will Beyond Black review student films or short films?
We occasionally consider short-form or proof-of-concept work, but our primary focus is feature-length and episodic content suitable for streaming audiences.
Do you license or purchase content?
Beyond Black engages in select licensing discussions. Deal structures vary depending on project scope, rights availability, and platform strategy. Details are discussed privately after initial alignment.
Do creators retain ownership of their work?
Yes. Beyond Black does not seek ownership of creator IP. We prioritize ethical licensing and creator respect.
What genres are you NOT currently seeking?
We are generally not seeking:
· Parody-driven content
· Excessive gore without narrative purpose
· Derivative remakes
· Trend-only or algorithm-chasing concepts
How long does the review process take?
Because we curate intentionally, timelines vary. If Beyond Black is interested in continuing a conversation, you will hear from us directly.
Can I follow up if I don’t hear back?
We appreciate patience. Due to volume, we are unable to respond to every inquiry. No response should be interpreted as lack of respect—only capacity limits.
Disclaimer: Beyond Black does not review unsolicited creative materials. Submission of materials without prior agreement does not establish a confidential or contractual relationship.
